![]() Now, the photo was a bit finicky - it didn't recognize either my handwriting or my screenshot of a store sign from Google Street View - but when I printed out what my desktop told me was Russian for "This is a test" and used the app to photograph the printout, it translated to English just right. ![]() ![]() It can take input by typing, speaking, handwriting on a touchscreen, or by photograph. In can translate in either direction between English and Russian, and for something like 50 x 50 other language pairs. Once that's installed, it can work without an internet connection. It can be augmented with Google's free Russian language pack. Anyone not fluent in Russian who's visiting and bringing a compatible mobile should strongly consider it. ![]() I just installed the no-charge Google Translate app on my Droid. This is going to read like an ad, but (a) I have no commercial connection to Google, and (b) they're not charging for what I'm going to recommend. ![]()
